Savannah in February: Weather, Events & What to Expect (2027)

By Best of Savannah

Savannah in February is when the city wakes up from its winter lull. The short answer: expect highs in the low to mid 60s, chilly nights in the 40s, and the busiest event calendar of the winter. The first week of February 2027 is the one to target: the Savannah Book Festival runs February 4-7, with free talks on Saturday, February 6, and Super Museum Sunday opens dozens of local museums for free on February 7.

Below is what the weather is like, which events are confirmed, how prices compare with spring, and how to plan the month. If you are still choosing between months, our best time to visit Savannah guide compares the whole year.

TL;DR: Savannah in February

  • Weather: highs in the low to mid 60s, lows in the low to mid 40s, with cold snaps early in the month and spring-like afternoons by the end.
  • February 4-7: the Savannah Book Festival. Thursday, Friday and Sunday are ticketed headliner talks; Festival Saturday, February 6, is free.
  • February 6-7: the Savannah Irish Festival, according to its committee's ticket listing.
  • February 7: Super Museum Sunday, noon to 4 p.m., with free admission at participating museums and historic sites.
  • All month: the Savannah Black Heritage Festival has run through February in past years; watch for the 2027 schedule.
  • Book early for: the first weekend and Valentine's weekend, which falls on Sunday, February 14, with Presidents' Day the next day.

What Is the Weather Like in Savannah in February?

February is a transition month. Typical highs run in the low to mid 60s and lows in the low to mid 40s, a few degrees warmer than January. Early February can still feel like deep winter, with frosty mornings and gray, windy days.

By the last week, warm afternoons in the high 60s or low 70s are common, and the first azaleas may start to open in a warm year. Rain usually arrives with passing fronts rather than all-day storms. Plan a mix of outdoor time and indoor backups.

The water is still cold, so Tybee is for walking and lighthouse views, not swimming.

What Events Happen in Savannah in February?

Savannah Book Festival (February 4-7)

The Savannah Book Festival is the anchor of the month. Its official site lists the 2027 festival for February 4-7. Ticketed headliner addresses run Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Festival Saturday, February 6, is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with 30-minute author talks, Q&As and book signings in venues around downtown, including churches, museums and theaters.

The 2027 author lineup had not been announced when we checked, so watch savannahbookfestival.org in the winter. Popular Saturday talks fill up, so arrive early for the authors you most want to see.

Savannah Irish Festival (February 6-7)

The Savannah Irish Festival is a long-running warm-up for St. Patrick's Day season. The 2026 edition, the 34th, was held February 7-8 at the Alee Temple, with Irish music, food and cultural displays, according to WTOC. The festival committee's ticket listing shows February 6-7 for 2027. Confirm the venue and hours closer to the date. When March arrives, our Savannah St. Patrick's Day guide covers the main event.

Super Museum Sunday (February 7)

Super Museum Sunday is part of the Georgia History Festival, run by the Georgia Historical Society. The 2027 edition is set for Sunday, February 7, from noon to 4 p.m., with free admission at participating sites statewide.

Savannah usually has one of the longest lists. In 2026, local participants included the Telfair Museums' three sites, the Davenport House, the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace, Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum, the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum, Fort Pulaski and Wormsloe, according to WTOC. The 2027 list may change, so check georgiahistoryfestival.org before you plan a route. Our Savannah museums guide helps you pick.

Savannah Black Heritage Festival

Presented by Savannah State University with the City of Savannah, the Black Heritage Festival marks Black History Month with free events. The 37th edition in 2026 ran through February as a series of concerts, performances and screenings. The 2027 schedule had not been posted when we checked. Pair it with our Savannah Black history guide and a visit to the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum.

Valentine's Day and Presidents' Day (February 14-15)

Valentine's Day 2027 falls on a Sunday, and Presidents' Day is Monday, February 15. That makes it a three-day weekend for many travelers, and the busiest stretch of the month. Dinner reservations at popular spots like The Olde Pink House and The Grey go fast, so book weeks ahead. Our romantic restaurants guide has more ideas.

Restaurant Week and Hockey

Savannah's restaurant week, now called Hostess City Eats, ran from late January into early February in 2026. The 2027 dates had not been announced when we checked, so look at eatitandlikeit.com if your trip lands early in the month. The Savannah Ghost Pirates also play home hockey games at Enmarket Arena through the winter; confirm the schedule on the team's site.

Is February a Cheap Time to Visit Savannah?

Mostly, yes. February rates are usually lower than in March and April, when spring and St. Patrick's Day push prices to their peak. The exceptions are the Book Festival weekend and Valentine's weekend, when popular downtown hotels can fill up. Midweek stays are the best value. Compare picks in our best Historic District hotels guide.

What Are the Best Things to Do in Savannah in February?

  • Walk the squares: mild, dry afternoons are ideal for a self-guided loop.
  • Do a museum day: save one for Super Museum Sunday, or for a rainy afternoon.
  • Visit Bonaventure: winter light and fewer visitors suit the oak alleys. Allow a couple of hours.
  • Take a ghost tour: early sunsets put evening tours in full dark. Compare options in our ghost tours directory.
  • Eat oysters: cool months are local oyster season.
Local tip: Stack your trip on the first weekend of February 2027. You can catch free Festival Saturday talks on February 6, the Irish Festival the same weekend, and free museum entry on Super Museum Sunday, February 7, all before the Valentine's crowds and prices arrive a week later.

What Should You Pack for Savannah in February?

  • Layers: a light long-sleeve top, a sweater, and a jacket for nights in the 40s.
  • A rain shell or umbrella: fronts pass through quickly.
  • Comfortable closed-toe shoes: brick sidewalks and River Street cobblestones get slick when wet.
  • Something nicer for dinner: if you have Valentine's plans.

Our full what to pack for Savannah list covers every season.

How Is February Different From January and March?

January is the quietest, coldest month, covered in our Savannah in January guide. February keeps winter prices but adds festivals and warmer afternoons. March brings spring blooms, St. Patrick's Day, and the year's biggest crowds; see Savannah in spring. For the whole season, read Savannah in winter.

Bottom Line

Savannah in February offers mild afternoons, winter prices, and a real event calendar. Come the first weekend for the Savannah Book Festival, the Irish Festival and Super Museum Sunday, or come for Valentine's weekend if romance is the point. Pack layers, book dinners and hotels early for those two weekends, and confirm event details on the official sites closer to your trip, since schedules can change.
