Which honey should you pick?
Match the jar to how you will use it. The honey collection page says to reach for tupelo when you want soft, mellow sweetness. The raw honeycomb page says to put the comb on a cheese board, warm bread, or fruit. The orange blossom page says to stir that honey into tea. Acacia is the pale vanilla jar, and lavender is the floral one. If you do not know which flavor they want, use a sampler and expect the mix to change with the season.

About Savannah Bee Company
Savannah Bee Company is a honey and hive-goods company founded by beekeeper Ted Dennard. The about page says he started keeping bees at 14 with a family friend, Roy Hightower, later served in the Peace Corps, and decided to pursue tupelo honey after canoeing under a tupelo tree back in Georgia. The page quotes Dennard on the first Savannah shop: “That was in 1999.” The wholesale page says, “In 2002, Ted Dennard founded Savannah Bee Company,” and says the company has since expanded to 16 retail locations. Both lines are printed on the site.
The Savannah store on the walking street is Broughton. A company post published June 5, 2024 calls it “our flagship store on Broughton Street.” The stores page lists it at 104 West Broughton Street, Savannah, GA 31401, open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day, phone (912) 233-7873. That listing shows a Honey Bar, a Mead Bar, and a Kids Area. Bee Garden tours are described for select locations, and the Broughton block does not list one.
Broughton is the downtown shopping street, so the shop fits a walking day. The wider route, including City Market and River Street, is in our Savannah shopping guide. For coffee along the same walk, use the Savannah coffee shops guide.
Tupelo honey: why it is special
The tupelo honey page calls this “the honey that started it all,” with “Buttery undertones with a soft vanishing sweetness” and a golden green hue. It lists the origin as Georgia and Florida and says tupelo honey is produced in the Okefenokee Swamp and the Apalachicola River Basin.
University of Florida IFAS publication ENY-102, “Honey and Its Uses,” by Malcolm T. Sanford, describes tupelo honey as clear and extremely slow to crystallize, and says crystallized honey has not spoiled. It also says the honey industry recommends against feeding honey to infants under one year old. A 2015 University of Illinois thesis by Samantha Rachelle Gardiner says tupelo’s relatively high fructose content was confirmed in that study. That is a lab finding, not a promise that a jar stays liquid forever.
Raw honeycomb
The raw honeycomb page says the comb is unprocessed and unfiltered, and that the wax is edible. The flavor line is light and sweet with subtle vanilla. The page says to set a piece on warm bread, a cheese board, fruit, or a salad, or to eat a slice on its own. Keep it sealed, cool, and dry.
Origin on that page depends on the size. The 12.3 ounce and 3.2 ounce combs were listed from Turkey. The 5.6 ounce comb was listed from Hungary. Checked October 24, 2026.
The other varietals
Flavor notes below are paraphrased from the brand’s product pages, checked October 24, 2026.
- Lavender. The lavender page says it is mildly sweet with floral notes, from the hills between Spain and Portugal. See lavender honey on Amazon
- Acacia. The acacia page calls it raw, with vanilla notes, a pale color, and what the brand describes as clarity and resistance to crystallization. The description mentions black locust from northern Italy to Ukraine. The origin field lists Hungary and Romania. See acacia honey on Amazon
- Black sage. The black sage page says it is earthy with fruit and black pepper. It names salvia mellifera, native to California and Baja, Mexico, and says a heavy bloom in California’s lower Sierra Nevada comes only four seasons per decade. The origin field lists the USA and Mexico. See black sage honey on Amazon
- Orange blossom. The orange blossom page calls it a monofloral honey with a bright citrus aroma. The body text names groves in northeastern Mexico, Florida, and Spain. The origin field lists the USA, Mexico, and Spain. Serving notes on the page include biscuits, yogurt, fruit, and tea, and the page says crystallization can happen and is natural. See orange blossom honey on Amazon
Honey straws, hot honey, and body care
The honey straws page says each straw is BPA-free plastic filled with 100 percent acacia honey from Romania and Hungary, and that each straw is 6 1/2 inches long. The on-the-go collection lists 12, 30, and 50 packs. See honey straws on Amazon
The hot honey page says the brand infuses wildflower honey with habanero peppers and sells it as a condiment for savory dishes, baked goods, and cocktails. The page prints the line “2022 FLAVOR OF GEORGIA WINNER,” which is the brand’s note of a 2022 award. See hot honey on Amazon
The honey almond beeswax hand cream page lists honey, beeswax, propolis, royal jelly, peach and pecan kernel oils, and blueberry extract. It says the beauty line has no artificial scents, flavors, or parabens, is not tested on animals, and is made in the USA. The on-the-go collection also lists a rosemary lavender hand cream. See beeswax hand cream on Amazon
The honey almond lip balm page says that balm is Certified USDA Organic and uses honey and beeswax. The tupelo honey lip balm page calls its balm mild and slightly floral, with beeswax, propolis, honey, royal jelly, and coconut, olive, cocoa, and hemp seed oils. See lip balm on Amazon
Gift sets and other Savannah gifts
Blossom to Bottle is six 3-ounce bottles. The page says the honeys could include acacia, lavender, orange blossom, tupelo, wildflower, sourwood, or black sage, and that the varieties may change with the bloom. Read the insert in the box. The 2026 Holiday Artisanal Honey Sampler is three 3-ounce jars: acacia, orange blossom, and lavender. The honey almond hand cream and lip balm set is the gift that is not a jar.
John Berendt’s novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is the other Savannah gift visitors still look up. This page does not pick an edition. See the book on Amazon
In December, pair a jar with the Savannah Christmas Market and the Savannah Christmas events guide.
Buy in Savannah or online?
Buy on Broughton Street if you want the Honey Bar. The stores page says the shops offer guided tastings of single-source and wildflower honeys, plus mead tastings for adults. Ask what is poured that day.
The same page lists BeeTopia at 313 Stiles Avenue, with a limited-inventory note; River Street at 1 West River Street; and a showroom at 211 Johnny Mercer Boulevard. Each block has its own hours and phone.
Buy from savannahbee.com or from Amazon if you are not in Savannah or you want a gift shipped. The Amazon links on this page are searches, because a product page could not be opened on October 24, 2026. When a listing opens, use one sold or shipped by Savannah Bee Company or Amazon.
On October 24, 2026, the brand pages for tupelo, lavender, acacia, black sage, orange blossom, raw honeycomb, honey straws, hot honey, and the honey almond hand cream showed their listed sizes as sold out. Gift-set pages are separate. Check again before you promise a jar.
If the shop is one stop on a short visit, fold Broughton into the 2 days in Savannah itinerary instead of making a special trip across town for a single bottle.
